The Sandbridge Scholarship Fund was born in the fall of 2017 based on the generosity of a former Sandbridge participant. Our first student was the very talented 15 year old Chaeli Smith. Chaeli studied with Mary Lynn Michal. See Chaeli and Mary Lynn playing "The Down Home Waltz" which Chaeli learned at Sandbridge. Since that time, the fund has provided scholarships for more than 60 participants.

Adie Carlyle (June 28, 1955 - January 6, 2018)
Adie was an accomplished hammer dulcimer player who studied HD and fiddle for many years with Ken. At Sandbridge, she displayed her great passion for music, learning every piece and participating in and occasionally even leading the jams. Adie knew that Sandbridge was about loving the process of learning and always striving to have fun doing so. Typical of Adie's love of having fun, her lack of prowess at the pool table never deterred her from getting in there and having a ton of fun. Always encouraging others, she laughed at nearly every shot and sometimes, remarkably, she even made one! Adie's joy, laughter, eagerness to participate, optimism and determination to learn epitomized the spirit of Sandbridge. On January 1, 2018 - just five days before her death - Elke Baker, Robin Bullock and Ken Kolodner played a house concert in Ken's living room, with about 30-40 of Adie's friends in attendance and hundreds watching on Facebook. That included Adie watching from her hospice room, with Mary Lynn van Deventer by her side. Adie loved Sandbridge and the great community of players who attended. She donated her instruments to support the Sandbridge Scholarship Fund. Since that time, over 100 Sandbridge participants and supporters have now donated to the scholarship fund. We will remember her forever. |
