The Sandbridge Scholarship Fund was born in the fall of 2017 based on the generosity of a former Sandbridge participant. Our first student was the very talented 15 year old Chaeli Smith. Chaeli studied with Mary Lynn Michal (formerly van Deventer) in Hillsborough, NC. See Chaeli and Mary Lynn playing "The Down Home Waltz" which Chaeli learned at Sandbridge. Since that time, the fund has provided scholarships for over 20 participants.
Boxwood Festivals, Ltd is graciously providing "fiscal sponsorship". Boxwood has a similar mission to Sandbridge. Founded in 1995, by my good friend Chris Norman, Boxwood has established a worldwide presence celebrating and sharing musical traditions. The Boxwood Festival & Workshop is a non-profit organization that aims to provide opportunities for the dissemination, sharing, presentation and celebration of traditional music. Much like Sandbridge, Boxwood's philosophy centers on helping individuals achieve their artistic potential and building stronger communities in the process. Boxwood has presented workshops in Canada, The United States, Europe, Asia and the Antipodes.
