Student ReflectionsA Sandbridge Poem:
Heading to Sandbridge I’ll be heading south to Sandbridge, I’ll have hammers in my hands. No nails are used, or two by fours, there is no building there. The hammers are for creating, the music in the air. In Sandbridge you will hear them, the sounds of others fill the air. Their hammers build the music and their chords will fill the air. And when the week is over, I’ll be heading north again. I will leave with more than hammers, just resting in my hands. I will leave with music memories, they’ll be dancing in my mind. While my dulcimer awaits me, where empty is the air. Till I arrive with hammers, that will dance upon the strings. While I recall those days in Sandbridge, with hammers in my hands. "The descent from Cloud 9 is not in sight from such a sensational week at Sandbridge! I am sure one of the many with profound gratitude for this incomparable learning experience, fellowship, fun...and you for you! Your vision, passion and talent as a musician and performer are extraordinary. To absorb bits of your knowledge and grow in small steps - now proving to be big steps - is an enriching privilege. The new friends made from the week are a blessed gift and the time is ideal to be more connected to a community around the instrument."
MH from NC, Spring week, 2017 "I had a wonderful time in Sandbridge and although I'm plugging along at my pace, the lightbulbs keep coming on. Once I figure something out.... it stays and I can keep building from there. I can finally see a great deal of what you have been talking about each year when I've come. Again my thanks for sharing your never ending enthusiasm and talent." NG from AZ, week #1, 2015 "I just wanted to say a big thanks to all for sharing yet another wonderful week at Sandbridge. It is always a special time- something I look forward to all year, then the week just flies by" KB from MA, week #3, 2015 Our community of dulcimer players truly is a treasure. The camaraderie, the music, the food, the laughter, the talent, the beach, the sharing, and more- all create a wonderful web, a marvelous/magical matrix of friendship and fun. "I too am having Sandbridge withdrawal. I plan to be there 2016" FG from FL, week #1, 2015 Thanks Ken for everything and especially for your patience. Thanks to all for sharing and for all the fun. "Thanks, Ken, for a wonderful week: great music; great venue; great teaching; great food; great community. I wish I'd seen more 'swimming things', but the 'flying things' and the 'space things' were pretty spectacular. Please put us down for next year." HW from NC, week #3, 2015 "It was a wonderful week - as it always is. Thank you for a great experience, great music, great teaching, great friends, great food, and LOTS of fun." MH from NY, week #2, 2015 "I TOTALLY loved last week! And seeing my friends from the earlier days was the icing on the cake! I went into it a little worried that I'd be in over my head, but I wasn't! I pretty much grasped all of your concepts, though I'm the kind of person that needs to go home and doodle with tunes before they sink in." RK from NY, week #3, 2015 "If only we can master a small portion of it all...But of course that is why we keep coming back!" KS from DC, week #3, 2015 "I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my week...the food was fabulous, the tune selection was wonderfully varied, the group seemed to be well matched, and the learning opportunities were unending. It has been great to have the "lessons" on Youtube....the DVD will be better, but having Youtube links has allowed for instant access." -- SH from NC, 2015 "It was truly a week where I felt I was in a little bubble of musical heaven." -- Francie from Florida, Sep 15-21, 2013 "I felt so fortunate to be a part of such a friendly and supportive learning environment." -- Gerri from Florida, Sep 15-21, 2013 "I so appreciated in particular the warm and supportive audience (for the Wednesday night coffeehouse)....really! And I thought in general that the energy that everyone brought to the experience in combination with Ken's superb, and patient, I might add, teaching methods made it a very memorable week." -- Susan from MD, Sep 15-21, 2013 "I had a stellar time learning music with all of you through the week---thanks to Ken for bringing us all together! Ken, I'm very glad to have found such a gifted teacher. I prize your patience, sense of humor and ability to present the material in many different ways. Thank you for not suggesting that we all take up knitting or basket weaving when we returned from lunch that day with our minds a blank slate." -- Linda from VT, Sep 15-21, 2013 "I loved meeting everyone and I look forward to seeing you all next year! The Sandbridge community is a great group of people!!! Thanks Ken for organizing, teaching, and your great hospitality!" -- Bob from CO, Sep 15-21, 2013 |
